The Hilt

UNDFTD is the latest single from Tokyo-based Hip-Hop collective The Hilt, from their anticipated upcoming EP ‘The Year of The Hilt’. They are now finding their stride as a collective. This is the third Hilt song Produced by Monsieur Jovoni and showcases singer/songwriter J.Rovia, and rappers MJ the Sensei & A.Valley. The trio remind us of the empowerment of oneself in a world that makes us second guess. Other Hilt members include Kraftykid, J The Protagonist, Neku.

“Patience is all we need as concrete dreams take us to even higher stages”, J.Rovia raps. He remains humble despite the heads that are turning towards The Hilt.

“They out in India singing our songs!”, MJ the Sensei raps after he and Monsieur Jovoni receive a co-sign by Rolling Stones India. MJ’s infectious “aaight!” ad-lib adds some seasoning to the song too. I catch myself saying this around the house sometimes.

“Makeru ki ha shinai!”, A.Valley raps, letting us know he’s not a quitter and is here to stay. The sprinkling of Japanese throughout the song shows The Hilt want to make their songs inclusive. This is the line that has the crowd chanting at every show. Impressive.

This behemoth of a track was produced and engineered by Monsieur Jovoni, who also sneaks on a few lines at the end as the song fades out. “Put in the work now they blessing me.” Yes, they are! He’s released six projects in the past two years alone. Keep it up!

The original Hilt logo was a nod to the clashing swords emoji ‘⚔’ so I wanted to do something similar that showcases who they are. I replaced the swords for two black crossed arms, because Wakanda Forever! I have received a lot of praise about this one in particular due to the typography and colour scheme. I got inspiration from Tyler, The Creator’s Call Me If You Get Lost aesthetic.

Moral

Even if others don’t see the vision yet, you must continue to produce at a high quality, not for them, but for you. Stay consistent and eventually heads will turn. A positive attitude sprinkled with confidence seems to have gone a long way for The Hilt.
